GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN.- The Grand Rapids Art Museum presents "America the Beautiful: Landscapes from the Collection," on view through September 1, 2002. The proud tradition of landscape painting has been a hallmark of American art since European settlers first began arriving on its shores. Majestic, untouched landscapes provided awesome beauty to be recorded by America’s first landscape artists. The tradition was continually reaffirmed throughout America’s history, through the Hudson River School of painting, American Impressionism and modern landscape abstraction. Today the American landscape continues to be a relevant subject for contemporary artists.
America the Beautiful: Landscapes from the Collection features paintings from the museum’s permanent collection, and includes work by local and national American artists who reverently illustrated and celebrated the beauty of our American landscape.
