CHATTANOOGA, TN.- The Hunter Museum of American Art reopens with its award- winning new addition the first show will be Georgia O'Keeffe: Visions of the Sublime. This extraordinary exhibition re-examines the work of one of the world's most iconic artists, most fitting for the Hunter's new building that will be an icon on Chattanooga's waterfront.

From her earliest works, Georgia O'Keeffe was a visionary who provided us with new ways to view our surroundings and explore our inner selves. This exhibition examines O'Keeffe's landscapes and how they fit with in the definition of the sublime: awe inspiring and investigating the infinite.

In its only southern appearance this show features approximately 35 paintings and works on paper by O'Keeffe, together with paintings by important American Artists such as Albert Bierstadt, Martin Johnson Heade, and George Inness from the Hunter's permanent collection. Also included are photographs by O'Keeffe's husband, Alfred Stieglitz, and noted American photographer Todd Webb.

Georgia O'Keeffe: Visions of the Sublime is organized by Joseph S. Czestochowski, and circulated by International Arts, Memphis, Tennessee.The exhibition was made possible by the assistance of The Georgia O'Keeffe Foundation, Abiquiu, New Mexico; George Eastman House, Rochester, New York (Alfred Stieglitz Collection); and the Museum of New Mexico, Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Fe, New Mexico (Georgia O'Keeffe Collection). The Chattanooga presentation of the exhibition is made possible by First Tennessee, EMJ Corp., and Allied Arts.
