Deadline Extended For Break 2.3 Festival

SLOVENIA.-The deadline for proposals for the eighth international festival Break 2.3has been extended from 18th April to 3rd May 2005! The proposals described in entry forms should be sent by e-mail and by post (with the required enclosures) until 3rd May 2005.

Festival Break, which is about to live through its eighth realization this year, will for a change take place in the autumn and not in the already traditional summertime. Break 2.3 still remains on the road laid out with its renovation in the year 2002, when a few changes were introduced into the program scheme, with which we aim to place the festival on the international map of significant art events.

Limitation on the age of the participants is not explicitly defined, it rather adapts to the program requirements of the curator and the guidelines set out in the call for submission. But in spite of this the festival is still primarily intended for the younger artists and those who have not yet won their recognition. They can apply for the festival’s international call for submission or can be invited by the curator according to his/her knowledge of their work. The program council also welcomes the established and influential artists, who have already developed their artistic expression and who act as backbones of the chosen areas. This ensures a better understanding of the treated themes and areas and at the same time enables a greater interest of the media in the event itself.

As to its structure festival Break can be classified together with those events designed for the exploration of new and newer artistic expressions and modern topics. It is directed towards the kind of poetics which is only beginning to develop and whose artistic discourse has not yet been rooted inside the settled standards, criteria and cultural values. The artistic ambition of the festival is to persist in hazardous artistic experiments for which we can tactically assume that they will develop into complex artistic poetics.

For its thematic framework Break 2.3 chose ‘New Species’ of artistic expressions, contents and areas – those which are only coming into being. This means that the stronger emphasis will be put on newer possibilities which are only opening up and widening the field of artistic expression, and not so much on the content or the developed artistic poetics. Although we search for and follow yet unarticulated expressions, it is nonetheless true that the content will not be totally neglected. It will be treated through the prism of the ‘new’ and through the principles that these novelties bring since this is the basic ambition of this festival – namely to direct attention to new artistic expressions.

The festival will consist of the central exhibition, introducing works from the visual sphere, performances, which will be realized inside or in the vicinity of the exhibition rooms, musical/sound projects and moving pictures, which will be suitably shown (projection room or some other medium).
