NEW YORK.- David Rockefeller, chairman emeritus at the Museum of Modern Art, made a $100 million pledge to its endowment. This would make it the largest cash gift the museum has ever received. Rockefeller announced that the aim of the gift is to enhance public programs at MoMA. The money will be given to the museum after Rockefellers death, but before he dies he will give the museum $5 million per year as if the money were already invested.
David Rockefeller stated, "I have watched the Museum of Modern Art grow from an idea in the minds of my mother and her friends to its position today as one of the world's greatest museums. My association with MoMA has been among the richest and most rewarding of my life."
The MoMA was co-founded by Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, mother of David Rockefeller, in 1929. Its sculpture garden was named in her honor. David Rockefeller has been a member of the board of trustees of MoMA since 1948. In the current capital campaign, he has donated $77 million.
