Christie's Magnificent Jewels New York achieves $28.1 million
The top lot of the sale was a sensational diamond necklace suspending a pear-shaped diamond of 115.83 carats, F color, VVS1 clarity, which realized $6,290,500.



NEW YORK, NY.- Christie’s New York July 29th auction of Magnificent Jewels totaled $28,142,500 with 87% sold by value and 83% sold by lot. The sale had global participation with clients registered from 34 countries.




The top lot of the sale was a sensational diamond necklace suspending a pear-shaped diamond of 115.83 carats, F color, VVS1 clarity, which realized $6,290,500. Colored diamonds also led the sale, with a fancy intense blue diamond ring of 7.16 carats, Internally Flawless selling for $3,855,000; and a fancy light purplish pink diamond ring of 7.65 carats, which sold for $819,000. Additionally, gemstones achieved high prices with a sapphire ring of 53.48 carats selling for $615,000; a Colombian emerald ring of 35.77 carats realizing $399,000; and a sapphire and diamond necklace that sold for $325,000.

Important signed pieces offered within the sale received competitive bidding and exceeded initial estimates including a pair of gold 'Pendantif-Pendant' earrings, by Man Ray, which achieved $125,000 against its low estimate of $10,000; a set of opal jewelry by Angela Cummings for Tiffany & Co. from The Collection of Gloria Manney that sold for $68,750 against its low estimate of $20,000; a coral, onyx and diamond bracelet by Bulgari, which achieved $111,250 against its low estimate of $40,000; a ruby, emerald, sapphire and diamond bracelet, by Van Cleef & Arpels that sold for more than five times its estimate realizing $162,500; and designs by JAR were 100% sold. Additionally, private collections within the sale performed with exceptional results including The Estate of Pauline Ireland, The Collection of James and Marilynn Alsdorf, The Collection of Gloria Manney, and The Property of a Texas Collector.

The Jewels Online sale continues through August 6/7 and features a broad selection of fine jewels and iconic designs by Bulgari, Cartier, David Webb, Tiffany & Co., and Van Cleef & Arpels.
