WASHINGTON, DC.- The Smithsonian’s National Postal Museum announced that it received a donation of $50,000 from Dr. Edward Dauer and his wife, Joanne Dauer, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The contribution will support the museum’s ongoing efforts to present “blockbuster” philatelic exhibits. These exhibits offer exciting and rare philatelic materials that otherwise would not be available for viewing by the general public.
“Through the generosity of people like Dr. and Mrs. Dauer, the National Postal Museum can continue offering the public a chance to ‘access the inaccessible’ through our blockbuster philatelic exhibits,” said museum director Allen Kane. “We are grateful to the Dauers for their support.”
An avid philatelist, Dr. Dauer is an associate professor of biomedical engineering and radiology at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. He is also chairman of radiology at Florida Medical Center--a 459-bed hospital--and past chair of the Florida State Board of Medicine. Joanne Dauer has a master’s degree in nursing/health care administration from Penn State University. She has worked as associate administrator of Florida Medical Center and currently is an administrator of an outpatient diagnostic center.
