LONDON.- Brent 2020, London Borough of Culture announced
BRENT 2020 UNLOCKED, a response to the new challenges faced by artists and the wider creative sector including an online artist network, a new podcast and interview series.
A new interview series with Brent legends from the worlds of literature, music and sport, a weekly podcast hosted by VICE and young people from Brents Blueprint Collective debunking fake news around Covid-19, and a call-out for people to share their memories of Brents rich reggae history are some of the ways people can enjoy and participate in Brent 2020 online over the coming months.
Lois Stonock, Artistic Director of Brent 2020, said: Brent 2020 is more than just a programme of events. It is an investment in the creative life of the borough, now and in the future. Culture has always been an important part of Brent, in good times and bad. We are determined to continue to support Brents creative community, celebrate our heritage and provide a platform for the voices of young people during this time.
Brent 2020, London Borough of Culture will deliver its full programme with some changes to the timetable to protect the health and wellbeing of audiences, artists and staff. Certain events will be rescheduled to autumn 2020, and The Kilburn High mile-long street party planned to coincide with the Euro 2020 competition will now take place in summer 2021.
Cllr Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council, said: "Culture is essential to our community, and Brent 2020 is committed to supporting and encouraging Brent's creative spirit throughout this challenging period we find ourselves in. Culture will help us get through this, and the Brent 2020 Unlocked programme is a brilliant way for people to enjoy the creative life and spirit of Brent from home".
Justine Simons OBE, Deputy Mayor for Culture and the Creative Industries said: Culture is part of Londons DNA and during these challenging times it has a key role to play in supporting the wellbeing of our communities. Our London Borough of Culture programme is designed to unite communities through the arts and Brent 2020 Unlocked is a great example of the creative community pulling together to inspire and engage local residents and artists. It will be a fitting to way to celebrate Brents rich history and diversity and give young Brent artists the opportunity to unlock their potential.
