GLOUCESTER, MASS.- Oliver Barker, Director of the
Cape Ann Museum, announced today two new key appointments as part of an expanding team at the Museum. Diane Wortis has been appointed Director of Development and Trenton Carls will commence next month as Librarian/Archivist at the Cape Ann Museum. Both will report directly to Barker.
We are especially excited to welcome both Diane and Trenton to the Cape Ann Museum said Barker. Diane and Trenton's stewardship of their respective areas is critical to the Museum's future success and our commitment to engaging the broader Cape Ann community, while serving greater audiences regionally, nationally and internationally in anticipation of the Museums 150th anniversary in 2023.
Diane Wortis brings 30+ years of experience in fundraising, communication, and nonprofit management to her new role as Director of Development at the Cape Ann Museum. With a BA from New York Universitys Tisch School of the Arts and an MBA from Simmons Colleges School of Management, Diane looks forward to partnering with Oliver Barker, the Board of Trustees, CAMs staff, volunteers, and members in making lasting contributions to the Museum and the Cape Ann community.
Most recently, Diane was Deputy Director of Philanthropic Engagement at Jacobs Pillow in Becket, Mass., where she was responsible for significant growth in Major Gifts, Planned Giving, School Sponsorships, and Capital Campaign support. Prior to this, Diane was Director of Development and Alumnae Relations at Miss Halls School in Pittsfield, Mass. During 10 years at the school, Diane raised over $55 million for annual operating, capital, and endowment support.
Dianes professional experience includes executive, development, and communications roles at Austen Riggs Center, Boston Arts Academy Foundation, The Cambridge Center for Adult Education, Harvard University, Huntington Theatre Company and the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute.
Trenton Carls joins the Cape Ann Museum as Librarian/Archivist following his role as Metadata and Digital Projects Librarian at the New England Historic Genealogical Society in Boston (NEHGS). Previously, Carls worked as the Technical Services Librarian for the Research Center of the Chicago History Museum (CHM). At CHM he managed the acquisition of published material, collection management, and worked with students, academics, historians, and scholars in providing access to and the navigation of the institutions vast resources.
As an archivist, Carls honed his skills working for the National Archives Great Lakes Region and the Pritzker Military Museum and Library. Carls is a graduate of Western Illinois University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Language. He went on to earn his Master of Library and Information Science with a focus in Archives and Cultural Heritage Resources at Dominican University.
Beginning his role at the Cape Ann Museum on November 12, Carls will combine the breadth of his experiences to engage the community and beyond in the research and discovery of the history and culture of Cape Ann, both past and present. Carls will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Museums Library and Archives and work alongside curatorial colleagues to plan and implement the relocation of the Museums collections to a new Collections Center as part of a new campus that the Museum will be inaugurating in June 2020. Future projects will also include the creation of a fully-accessible online catalog as well as the integration of Library and Archives collections into special exhibitions and public programming as a means to expand the understanding of and appreciation for this great resource within the Cape Ann Museums collections.
