Musée Maillol exhibits Julio González's Collection from IVAM

PARIS, FRANCE.- From 17 November 2004 to 21 February 2005 the Institut Valencià d'Art Modern (IVAM) in collaboration with the Musée Maillol is presenting 150 paintings, prints, and sculptures exploring Julio González's art at the Fondation Dina Vierny - Musée Maillol in Paris.

This exhibition, the first to be devoted to Julio González in Paris, includes 116 works from the IVAM, that has one of the most important collections from González. The exhibition is completed with works from the Fondation Maeght, the Musée National d'Art Moderne, the Centre Pompidou, la Galerie de France and private collections.

Julio González (Barcelona, 1876 – Paris, 1942) is one of the foremost sculptors of the 20th century. His not very abundant work is distributed among the major modern art museums; especially outstanding are the collections in the Musée National d'Art Moderne, Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid) and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The most important collection of Julio González's work is that of the IVAM, made up of almost 400 pieces (between sculptures, drawings, paintings and jewellery) from different purchases, but fundamentally from the donations of Carmen Martínez and Viviane Grimminger, the artist's heiresses. The IVAM also conserves work by Julio's brother, Joan González (Barcelona, 1868-1908), and his daughter, Roberta González.

The exhibition presented by the IVAM is accompanied by a catalogue which reproduces the works exhibited and includes essays by the art historicist Jean Luc Daval and Josep Salvador, curator at the IVAM. This show is sponsored by Pernod Ricard.
