LONDON, ENGLAND.- Camden Arts Centre will present Science Fair, curated by Sally O’Reilly Saturday 15 June. With stalls, demonstrations, discussions and slide shows, the Science Fair replicates a high-school event and brings together artists, theorists and scientists involved in far-flung fields of research. The fair celebrates the beauty of ideas and the accomplishments of the dedicated researcher. This final event at Camden Arts Centre before its temporary closure for a £4 million building redevelopment is one of a series of commissions exploring relationships between art and science.
A dynamic program of events runs through the afternoon. Debates and discussions include The Mathematics of Psychoanalysis by Bernard Burgoyne (psychoanalyst); The Role of Failure in Art and Science, with Sacha Craddock (art critic), Simon Bill (painter) and Lewis Wolpert (biologist and writer); and Rupert Sheldrake (biologist and writer) on The Unexplained Power of Animals. A tour of the universe via images from the Hubble Telescope is presented by Robin Catchpole, and artists Brian Griffiths & Luke Gottelier host a hi-tech cocktail bar. Petcar: Shahin Afrassiabi, Sam Basu & Gower Ramsay provide digital music. Stalls include artist Simon Faithfull’s Schrodinger’s Cat Box, Ilya Eigenbrot’s (Imperial College) polymer chemistry demonstrations, the Science Museum’s euthanasia machine and astrophysicist Liz Puchnarewicz’s recreation of the first 100 seconds of the universe.
