GLASGOW.- The full list has been unveiled of over 100 Scottish and international contemporary artists taking part in this weekend’s Art Car Boot Sale in Glasgow.
The line-up (see below) includes half a dozen Turner Prize nominees and 2007 winner Mark Wallinger as well as other high-profile artists.
Among them is Eve Fowler from Los Angeles who has just had her first major European exhibition at DCA in Dundee and is described as one of the most significant artists of her generation.
There are also a multitude of Glasgow artists such as Toby Paterson (pictured) who is well known for his precise and colourful screenprints, painting and work in the public realm. Like other artists Paterson sees the sale as an opportunity to sell editions and connect directly with the public.
Despite its creativity the visual arts in Scotland are facing a multitude of challenges and Art Car Boot Sale, which takes place on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 July at SWG3, in Finnieston, aims to encourage a new wave of collectors but offering affordable art ranging from £5 to £500.
Patricia Fleming, Art Car Boot Sale Organiser, said:“This is a brilliant way to meet some of the best contemporary artists and chat to them in a relaxed environment where they are selling artwork from everything including car boots, camper vans, transits, pushbikes and skateboards.
“We think it’s hugely important to bring down the barriers to collecting art, and one of the best ways of doing this is by bringing artists and the public together at events like this. Here they get to see a mix of affordable, unique works and limited editions straight from the studio.
“Galleries can be intimidating places for the public and artists need new and new more direct approaches are needed – Arts Car Boot Sale is a great example of artists getting together and doing it for themselves.
“In future we’d love to hold events like this all round the country and help develop the new wave of collectors that would do so much to secure the future of Scotland’s contemporary arts.”
The first Art Car Boot Sale took place last year. It welcomed more than 4,000 people and generated around £100,000 for the local arts economy, including artists and picture framers, as well as for street food vendors at the event. This year’s sale will feature DJs and cocktail bars.

Toby Paterson added:“The 2017 Art Car Boot was a welcome surprise. The quality of engagement with visitors was incredibly refreshing and there was a real sense of mutual benefit as artists received much-needed financial support while making their work a part of the lives of people who might never have thought it possible to own significant, original art. It was great fun too and I very much look forward to this year's event.”
The Turner Prize nominees and winners are: Christine Borland (nominee 1997), Luke Fowler Turner (2012), Ciara Phillips (nominee 2014), Mark Wallinger (winner 2007), Ciara Phillips (2014), Jim Lambie (nominee 2005).
