PHILADELPHIA, PA.- On Wednesday, February 7,
Freemans will present The Collectors Sale an auction introduced by the house this past July, aimed primarily at emerging, young collectors and new art enthusiasts looking to imbue their home or living space with character and style. Replete with diverse objects spanning centuries and collecting genres, the sale promises to appeal to a variety of tastes and budgets. With the majority of its lots carrying pre-sale estimates below $1,000, the sale suggests that quality items are not necessarily attached to exorbitant price tags, and in turn, offers the Millennial and modern consumer an interesting buying experience and a more cost-effective alternative to high-end retail.
Consisting of over 400 lots, the sale includes a host of paintings, furniture and decorative arts that could enhance or complement an existing decor, serve as a springboard for a stylistic makeover, or be the exciting start of a new collection. The sales American, British, European and Asian art, furniture & decorative objects will suit a more traditional interior but can also be introduced as an unexpected juxtaposition in a more modern setting. Those with an eye only for Design will no doubt be inspired by the sales mid-century modern furniture by recognizable names in the industry, including Florence Knoll, Warren Platner, Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe, and Poul Jensen. Choose any one of the pieces of vibrant art and studio glass, a contemporary ceramic sold to benefit Philadelphias Clay Studio, or a dynamic and compelling group of wood turnings to add welcome visual interest to an otherwise common shelf or table top.
In todays click-and-buy world, Freemans recognizes that a live auction may be a foreign, and quite frankly, intimidating experience for newcomers. To help novices familiarize themselves with the auction world and bidding process, the gallery is opening its doors to the public during Philly First Friday on February 2, 2018 from 6pm-8pm. This preview party, hosted in conjunction with Philly Stewards, an educational organization dedicated to the collection, support and promotion of Philadelphias Art and Artists, will not only offer potential buyers the chance to preview the forthcoming sale but will also allow them to engage with Freemans specialists who will be on-hand to answer questions. Complimentary drinks and snacks will be provided.
The Collectors Sale exhibition will be open Saturday, February 3 to Tuesday, February 6. We invite you to come, explore, be inspired and find your story.
