NEW YORK, NY.- Among its top conservators, appraisers, and specialty partners,
Eli Wilner and Company Master Framers was recently featured at a risk management exhibitor showcase hosted by AIG Private Client Group, a division of the member companies of American International Group, Inc. (AIG).
Staged in the elegant ballroom of the Basking Ridge Country Club, Eli Wilner and Company was permitted to erect a scaled down version of their 10,000 square foot restoration studio, which is located in Long Island City, New York.
Attendees, comprised of independent insurance agents and brokers, were offered the unique opportunity to engage with five frame historians and master artisans, and to participate in hands-on frame making and restoration tutorials.
Carving demonstrations were held by Eli Wilner and Companys master carver, Felix Teran, perhaps best known for his intricate work on the frame for Emmanuel Leutzes Washington Crossing the Delaware at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Teran explained and executed a number of carving techniques used by frame makers centuries ago, and provided personal tutorials for attendees willing to try their hand.
Eli Wilner and Companys master finishers gilded atelier frames for the duration of the event.
Guests were provided with their own lengths of wood molding and instructed in the delicate art of gold leaf application. Visitors became acquainted with the different tools and materials integral to the gilding process, such as the different varieties of gold leaf, squirrel hair brushes, agate burnishers and bole, and learned about how these applications would appear in historical framing examples.
In addition to participating in the craft of frame making and conservation, guests were also invited to handle and examine period and replica frames with specialists.
Described as an excellent, educational and fun experience, it is no surprise that nearly 200 personal insurance professionals passed through the Eli Wilner and Company exhibition.
Eli Wilner and Company is the preeminent expert on the conservation of period frames, and has both restored and created thousands of historically appropriate European and American frames for museums and private collectors over the course of nearly 40 years. Eli Wilner and Company continues to be a preferred provider for these services by the worlds leading insurance companies, including AIG.
