PARIS.- Following David Salle’s solo presentation at the Palazzo Cini Gallery during the 61st Venice Biennale earlier this year, this exhibition, held in an intimate space at Thaddaeus Ropac Paris Pantin, reunites the works shown together in Venice. The paintings extend the New York-based artist’s use of artificial intelligence as a tool to unravel and recalibrate the logic of painting. Focusing his AI model on his earlier Tapestry Paintings (1989–91) – a series of works based on 18th-century Imperial Russian tapestries that were themselves interpretations of 16th- and 17th-century Italian oil paintings – Salle creates new paintings that collapse time, medium and place. LONDON.- Pippy Houldsworth Gallery is presenting Floating Between Earth and Sky, the first European solo exhibition of Mexican Surrealist painter Sofía Bassi. A contemporary of Leonora Carrington and Remedios Varo, Bassi's work has been underappreciated outside of her native country. The exhibition brings together paintings, works on paper, and a painted ostrich egg - one of just six examples made by Bassi, and the first time that this part of her practice has been publicly presented. Conceived as an extension of his major work Development till Exhaustion, the exhibition continues the artist’s investigation into the material limits of analog photography: the point at which the medium ceases to function, when chemical processes become exhausted, and when the photographic substrate breaks down before reassembling into a new form. LUCERNE.- Dominik Zietlow (*1988) is being awarded the Manor Art Prize, one of the most important Swiss promotional prizes for the fine arts. Nur die Berge begegnen sich nie (Only the mountains never meet) is the title of the exhibition in which the filmmaker is showing his latest works related to Lucerne. The exhibition title references an old saying: mountains cannot alter their position, whereas people are in a position to encounter one another—also in a metaphorical sense.
