BERLIN.- It began some fifteen years ago with a deceptively simple idea: Yero sought to render Black life visible in Germany. At first I photographed friends and acquaintances. Back then, I didnt quite know why. Only later did the deeper impulse reveal itself. Born in Oromia, Ethiopia, Adugna Eticha first turned his lens on Berlins nightlife at the age of 29. From 2008 to 2011 he studied at the acclaimed Ostkreuz School of Photography. Today, he divides his time between Berlin and Addis Ababa, collaborating with institutions including the Akademie der Künste, the Festival of Future Nows, and Studio Olafur Eliasson, while continuing to cultivate his own artistic vision. This breadth of experience also shapes Black in Berlin, on view at Fotografiska Berlin from September 16 to November 10, 2025. The contours of the project emerged in 2020, when some 15,000 people filled the streets of Berlin in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. Confronted with the scope of t ... More

VADUZ.- Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein has invited artist Tony Cokes (b. 1956, Richmond, Virginia, US) to engage in a dialogue with its collection, resulting in the solo exhibition Let Yourself Be Free. This revealing show presents a number of the artists light boxes, text and video installations, together with a new commission and works by several artists in the collection. A defining feature of the exhibition, and central to Cokes practice, is the principle of (unexpected) juxtaposition, remix and reinterpretation. At its centre is a new three-channel video installation in which Cokes reflects on three figures: the gallerist and collector Rolf Ricke, who played an important role for Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein; the minimal artist and collector Donald Judd; and Harald Szeemann, the pioneering curator and collector. Cokes interweaves their texts and biographies into narratives that ... More

Staying true to the artists signature element the mirrorthe exhibition features a series of both new and recent works that highlight an ongoing, evolving investigation. In this latest body of work, Pistoletto investigates the interplay between the real and the virtual, between two-dimensional and three-dimensional space, and the role of the viewer. Lutz Bacher's provocative art of the "readymade" explored in posthumous survey OSLO.- Astrup Fearnley Museet and WIELS Brussels announce the first posthumous survey exhibition of American artist Lutz Bacher (19432019). This landmark exhibition offers an expansive view of Bachers provocative, genre-defying oeuvre, spanning five decades of uncompromising art with an unsettling mix of affect and sentiment, humor, pop-cultural touchstones, and unflinching examinations of sexuality, violence, political paranoia, and cosmic metaphysics. Lutz Bacher lived in Berkeley, California and later New York City. Early in her artistic life, she adopted a fictional, masculine-sounding pseudonym, insisting on an open-ended understanding of authorship and an identity that purposefully resisted categorization. In the mid-1970s Bacher began making photographs. She took her own pictures, as well as transformed found photographs, amplifying their ... More

Carnival spirits and myths collide in Julien Creuzet's Brussels show BRUSSELS.- Mendes Wood DM is presenting Julien Creuzets first solo exhibition at the gallery in Brussels. A red and black presence emerges like an ectoplasm, a visible emanation that serves both as an introduction and a guide for the entire exhibition. At once provocative, sacred, masked, horned, shrouded in mystery, and adorned with mirrors, the figure never fully reveals itself. It originates from the Martinican carnival; the Red Devil roams the streets like a festive specter. Its annual appearance during Martiniques Mardi Gras opens a symbolic portal to ancient worlds buried in the folds of history, to hybridized beliefs and exiled tales. Although seemingly local and specific, this figure resonates across other territories such as Haiti, Brazil, and countries surrounding the Gulf of Guinea. Julien Creuzet takes this carnivalesque figure as his point of departure, probing ... More
