The Louvre recreates the splendor of the Galleria Farnese

PARIS.- Completed at the very beginning of the 17th century, a decorative interior in the heart of the Palazzo Farnese – the current seat of the French Embassy in Italy – would come to be regarded as one of the greatest masterpieces of Western painting, a 17th century Sistine Chapel and a model for many interiors painted throughout Europe for nearly 300 years. The work in question is the gallery decorated by Annibale Carracci, his brother Agostino, and their students. In order to present its immense beauty to the widest possible audience, the Musée du Louvre is 'moving' the Galleria Farnese to Paris, where the most extraordinary collection of preparatory drawings ever assembled will recreate the gallery in the manner of a jigsaw puzzle. The Galleria Farnese drew admiration far and wide and inspired the work of many artists – the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles and the Grand Foyer of the Opéra Garnier, to name only a few – due to the beauty of its frescoes as wel ... Shapero Modern to stage Dalí exhibition on Bond Street and brings Modern Masters to Miami   Harley-Davidson led the pack at Milestone's $1.1M auction of motorcycles & signs   Sacred splendor: Tibetan masterpieces illuminate Artemis Fine Arts' Connoisseur’s Delight sale

'The Twelve Tribes of Israel' (1973), a complete set of etchings with handcolouring by Dali with a seven-figure asking price.

LONDON.- Shapero Modern is opening a Dalí exhibition in the Bond Street Gallery on 25th November. The exhibition will include a wide range of works by the Spanish surrealist, but the rarest work on view is 'The Twelve Tribes of Israel' (1973), a complete set of etchings with handcolouring by Dali with a seven-figure asking price. It presents a strikingly surreal interpretation of biblical prophecy, fusing religious symbolism with the dream logic of the unconscious. Salvador Dalí, known for his bizarre surrealist style inspired by Freudian theories of the subconscious, reimagines scriptural emblems using the same techniques and aesthetics that appear in his wide and complex oeuvre. In 'The Twelve Tribes of Israel', Dalí draws on Jacob’s predictions ... More

Yoshitomo Nara, Midnight Tears, 2023 (detail). Collection of Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.

NEW YORK, NY.- David Zwirner announced the representation of the work of Yoshitomo Nara. In this capacity the gallery will be working in collaboration with the artist’s international agent, Joe Baptista, founder of Equivalence Art Agency, an initiative fostering artist-centered projects. David Zwirner will present a forthcoming exhibition of works by Nara in its New York gallery. Yoshitomo Nara is renowned for his distinctive body of work—encompassing drawing, painting, sculpture, and architectural installations—that continues to resonate with a global audience, across borders and generations. For Nara, creating art is a deeply personal endeavor that stems from a lifelong conversation with himself—a compulsion born of introspection. Drawing lies at the core of his practice—it is an immediate, spontaneous form of expression for both images and words, conveying thought-provoking statements and messages. Nara’s painting and the wide scope of his sculptural work—made us ... More

NEW YORK, NY.- Sean Kelly is presenting Radiance, an exhibition of new work by internationally acclaimed artist Mariko Mori. In this deeply contemplative presentation, Mori unites cutting edge technological materials with ancient cosmologies, drawing inspiration from the enduring spiritual traditions of Japan. Spanning sculpture, installation, and works on paper, the exhibition reflects Mori’s long-standing engagement with metaphysical concepts and technical innovation grounded in her cultural heritage. Radiance is rooted in Mori’s extensive research into Japan’s stone cultures from the Jomon (14,000–300 BCE) and Yayoi (300 BCE–300 CE) periods through the Kofun (250–538 CE) and Asuka eras (538–710 CE). Informed by site visits to sacred geological formations across the Japanese archipelago, including the storied rocks of Okinoshima Island and the shrines of Izumo and Awaji, Mori focuses on these ancestral sites ... NEW YORK, NY.- This November, Sotheby’s will present A Legacy Reimagined, the latest offering of works from The Collection of Dorothy and Roy Lichtenstein. Marking the culmination of a year-long, landmark series of sales that began in New York in November 2024 and traversed London, Paris, Hong Kong and beyond, this sale will take place at Sotheby’s new home in the iconic Breuer building on Madison Avenue — the former site of the Whitney Museum of American Art. Fittingly, it was within these very walls that Roy Lichtenstein’s 1981 mid-career retrospective cemented his place among the giants of twentieth-century art. One work featured in that exhibition, the painting Cubist Still Life with Vase and Flowers (est. $4-6 million), will anchor the sale, bringing the artist’s dialogue with the Breuer full circle. Now, more than four decades later, the building once again becomes the stage for a defining moment in his legacy. The sale will also feature Brushstrokes ... More

NEW YORK, NY.- The Whitney Museum of American Art launches 12 Years in Azeroth – The Journey Begins, a digital art project by Robert Nideffer commissioned for artport, the Museum’s online gallery space for Internet art. With 12 Years in Azeroth – The Journey Begins, Nideffer blends autobiography, fiction, and game design to examine a 12-year engagement in the online game World of Warcraft. Serving as the entry point, The Journey Begins is the initial section of the artist’s interactive fiction, which follows with four additional parts Nideffer is launching throughout the coming year. 12 Years in Azeroth – The Journey Begins is an exploration of how identity, memory, and history intertwine and are shaped by long-term immersion in virtual worlds, specifically Nideffer’s experience in the digital space of World of Warcraft. Greuze, Young Shepherd Questioning Fate to see if his Shepherdess Loves Him, between 1760 and 1761. Oil on canvas, 72.5 × 59.5 cm. Petit Palais, musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris. CC0 Paris Musées / Petit Palais, musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris.

PARIS.- The Petit Palais pays tribute to Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725 1805) on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of his birth. A painter of the human spirit, famous for his portraits and genre scenes, Greuze was one of the most important and daring figures of the 18th century. Although he is less well known today, in his own time, he was acclaimed by the public, courted by collectors, and adored by critics, Diderot in particular. He was, however, also utterly singular. A rebellious spirit, he never ceased to reaffirm his creative freedom and the possibility of rethinking painting outside of conventions. This exhibition allows visitors to rediscover his work through the prism of the theme of childhood, through approximately one hundred works of art, on loan from some of the most important French and international collections, including the Musée du Louvre ... Paolo Conte's art takes center stage in monumental exhibition
ASTI.- For decades, the world has known Paolo Conte by the smoky timbre of his voice, the lyrical genius of his songwriting, and the jazzy, melancholic rhythm that defines his music. But tucked away, almost like a secret chord, has always been his profound passion for the visual arts. This November, that secret is finally brought into the dazzling light. Starting November 5th, the historic halls of Palazzo Mazzetti in Asti will host “Paolo Conte. Original,” an exhibition hailed as the most comprehensive look ever mounted—in Italy or abroad—at the painterly soul of the globally adored Italian musician. Organized by the Asti Musei Foundation in collaboration with Arthemisia, this show isn't just an accompaniment to his music; it's an overdue homage to the artist who claims his love for drawing predates his devotion to song. "Drawing is one of my two capital vices, older than the one ... More

Tornabuoni Arte presents "Rosso Shakespeare," Emilio Isgrò's dialogue between word and image
ROME.- If, as a thought experiment, one were to imagine that Isgrò’s entire visual oeuvre had never existed, his literary and poetic production alone would suffice to justify this and many other exhibitions and to leave an indelible mark on the cultural landscape. Isgrò’s first poems, published by Schwarz in 1956, drew the attention of Pier Paolo Pasolini, who wrote about them in his article La Poesia e il Sud («Il Punto», May 25, 1957). A close friendship with Eugenio Montale followed, though the poet famously ceased speaking to Isgrò in 1966, after his provocative statement “The word is dead.” A collection of his poems was published by Vittorini and Calvino in Einaudi’s Menabò, while his novels were printed by Feltrinelli, Mondadori, and Sellerio. Among them, L’avventurosa vita di Emilio Isgrò—recently reissued by Interlinea—was shortlisted for the Premio Strega. He worked ... More

Exhibition at Lenbachhaus Munich rethinks Haiti through the lens of photographer Leonore Mau
MUNICH.- "Sa w wè a se pa sa" (There’s more to it than meets the eye. Haitian saying) Can an exhibition by a German photographer convey an image of Haiti that is not characterized by stereotypes? With "Out of Focus", U5 present the images of Leonore Mau (1916 –2013) in a multimedia, sensory environment. Leonore Mau traveled to Haiti in the 1970s during the dictatorship of Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier. She traveled together with the writer Hubert Fichte (1935 –1986). The trip was part of a long-term research project on Afro-diasporic religions. Mau’s photographs were published in the photo books "Xango" (1976) and "Petersilie" (1980) and in travel reports in many German magazines. However, the majority of her photographs have not yet been published or shown in exhibitions and are in the photographer’s estate at the bpk-Fotoarchiv, Berlin. In Mau’s ... More

HAU Hebbel am Ufer presents a retrospective of Jefta van Dinther's visionary choreography
BERLIN.- The question of what it means to be human lies at the heart of Jefta van Dinther’s work—examined in relation to society, community, and the environment, but also to other forms of life. The performances of the choreographer and dancer reach into metaphysical and otherworldly realms, engaging with notions of illusion, the visible and invisible, synaesthesia, darkness, labour, sex, the uncanny, affect, voice, and image. The title of the retrospective, drawn from Martha Graham’s (1894–1991) words to the dancer and choreographer Agnes de Mille (1905–1993), captures the insatiable, restless drive at the core of Van Dinther’s work—a “queer divine dissatisfaction” that propels him to remain in motion even without the promise of resolution, sustaining a practice that resists closure. The retrospective at HAU Hebbel am Ufer focuses on Van Dinther’s smaller yet seminal ... More

Jenna Sutela's first Dutch solo show fuses biology and technology
THE HAGUE.- Stroom Den Haag presents Ave bossa, bow ole, the first solo exhibition by Finnish artist Jenna Sutela in the Netherlands. The title poetically reinterprets “As Above, So Below,” a principle from the esoteric philosophical tradition of hermeticism. It refers to the effects of celestial bodies on earthly mechanisms: the sun guides the seasons, the moon affects the tides, and the microcosm of a creature follows the movements of the cosmos itself. This principle is echoed in the exhibition: across two floors, two distinct spatial systems create environments that interlock with one another. Spanning the subterranean level of Stroom is Vermi-Cell (2023-2025). This living and live installation presents a series of vermicompost heaps hosting an earth battery-powered sound system. Produced in collaboration with local gardens, hundreds of worms are composting ... More
