In Carry It With You, Carino joins together the individual tableaux of his paintings to create ... More

Long-lost cosmic vision: Aby Warburg's star-gazing exhibition rediscovered and reimagined in Hamburg
HAMBURG.- After decades of being presumed lost, a remarkable piece of art and intellectual history has been brought back to life in Hamburg. The Planetarium Hamburg officially opened "Image Collection on the History of Astral Belief and Astrology" on June 21, a didactic exhibition originally conceived by the influential Hamburg art historian Aby Warburg for the Planetarium's inauguration in 1930. The exhibition, which will run until August 24, offers a unique journey through humanity's age-old fascination with the cosmos. It was rediscovered in 1987 by Uwe Fleckner, then an art history student, who stumbled upon 66 forgotten image panels and artifacts in a pile of discarded items at the Planetarium. The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated digital publication featuring an essay by Megan Kincaid. Cherkit’s interiors possess a dreamlike quality, where scale and perspective are fluid, not fixed. Embracing subjectivity, Cherkit does not strive for a precise depiction of his surrounds, but uses memory and perception as a conduit for how the mind shapes these familiar domestic spaces. As a result, these paintings of his home and studio in France feel as though they have passed through the mind’s eye, imbued with emotion, emphasis, and time. Here, objects swell beyond proportion, architectural features shift as if seen from multiple vantage points, and colors ... More

LONDON.- Snow-laden branches, lily ponds, rocky mountain sides, tropical gardens, sun-split cloudscapes – East of the Sun and West of the Moon, Norwegian artist Martine Poppe’s solo exhibition at Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery, Tower Bridge, takes us on a journey through distant terrains. These landscapes emerge through a haze, as though coming into focus under a blinding beam of light, each infused with a particular kind of magic. Here, we are invited to be both reader and protagonist – artist and adventurer – coming together to explore and conjure new worlds. The exhibition takes its title from a Norwegian fairy tale, which Poppe describes as a ‘blueprint’ for storytelling: a tale that encapsulates both a physical and metaphorical journey. From Cosmos to Commons: Between Stars and Signals on view at Kunsthaus Hamburg
HAMBURG.- How do we navigate a world in which our actions have a planetary impact? In our post-global era, we cannot see ourselves merely as inhabitants of the Earth. Essentially, we are geological actors whose economic, ecological and political decisions leave profound marks on the globe. “The planetary” thus describes a new perspective in which the Earth is understood as a holistically networked and dynamic system. The term encompasses a critical view on global connections transcending national borders as well as cultural and political spheres of power. Based on this, the group exhibition Between Stars and Signals at Kunsthaus Hamburg spans an arc from humanity’s early understanding of the world and its orientation on the stars all the way to the planetary paradigm and modern technologies such as GPS.
