NEW YORK, NY.- Danny Meyers Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) introduces Sandwiched, its new pop-up cafe at the
Whitney Museum of American Art featuring sandwich creations from USHGs celebrated chefs. Set to open in tandem with 2010, the Whitney Biennial, on Thursday, February 25th, Sandwiched is a temporary cafe serving visitors while the permanent dining space on the lower level of the museum is being renovated.
As part of the Biennial, the Whitney commissioned Jeffrey Inabas architecture collective INABA and C-Lab to design the space.
Created and operated by Hudson Yards, the events and catering business from Danny Meyers USHG, Sandwiched offers sandwich selections from the following USHG chefs: Carmen Quagliata (Union Square Cafe), Michael Anthony (Gramercy Tavern), Floyd Cardoz (Tabla), Daniel Humm (Eleven Madison Park), Kenny Callaghan (Blue Smoke), and Robb Garceau (Hudson Yards). The sandwiches were commissioned specifically for the pop-up cafe, and are available at the Whitney only, for a limited time during this installation. The menu will also feature beverages, snacks, and desserts from some of USHGs talented pastry chefs.
Following the renovation, the Whitney and Union Square Hospitality Group will unveil a new cafe in the fall of 2010. In addition to operating the cafe, Hudson Yards serves as the exclusive caterer for all Whitney events. Hudson Yards has earned acclaim as an innovative culinary leader for its role in the menu creation and day-to-day operations of all USHG businesses at The New York Mets Citi Field, and also for Public Fare, its open-air cafe at the Public Theater at The Delacorte in Central Park.
