David Wilkie RA (1785-1841), The Gentle Shepherd, 1823, oil on panel. This is a superb example of the smaller paintings of Sir David Wilkie’s maturity, made at the time he was regarded as the finest painter of narrative pictures. It is notable for both the beauty of its execution and the sensitivity of the emotions displayed by the three figures. It is one of Wilkie’s masterpieces, on display at Lowell Libson & Jonny Yarker Ltd for London Art Week Winter 2018.
