Luristan Copper Axe Head w/ Incised Motif
. Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 600 BCE. A sturdy axe head cast from copper via the lost wax (cire perdue) technique. The weapon features a vertical blade with rounded corners, a corseted midsection, and a flared socketing shaft. Estimate $1,200 - $1,800.
Ostrogothic Silver Buckle w/ Lion, ex-Royal Athena
. Eastern Europe, Crimea, Ostrogoth culture, ca. 6th century CE. This is a superb example of a 68% to 73% silver dress buckle with a rectangular plate embossed with a repousse lion motif and knobbed rivets at each corner. The sheet was hammered flat and embossed with the stylized lion facing towards the buckle, the panel is folded over the loop and prong, and the back plate is riveted in place. Estimate $1,100 - $1,650.
