NEW YORK, NY.- Petzel announced the appointment of Ricky Lee to the role of Director of Communications, responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of the gallery’s PR/media relations, publications and external messaging.

“I am delighted that Ricky Lee has increased the visibility of all the Petzel artists since he invigorated our press department,” says Friedrich Petzel. “Ricky’s leadership in navigating us through the COVID-19 crisis has given us confidence about the future, both in real life and online.”

Lee joined Petzel in 2019, after serving as Press and Communications Officer of Perrotin New York, and after working for over 15 years as an independent advisor, cultural programmer and event producer for various artists, galleries, museums and art institutions. He has directed public relations and marketing campaigns for publishers such as Abrams, Phaidon Press, and the Vendome Press, and for luxury brands such as Hermès of Paris. From 2001 to 2004, he was the Associate Publisher and Gallery Director of Scalo, the Zürich-based art and photography house. Lee was also one of the founding editors, and the inaugural fashion director, of Quincy Jones’s Vibe magazine and has worked as a journalist for The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Andy Warhol’s Interview, 7 Days, Vogue, i-D, and The Los Angeles Times. He has curated exhibitions in New York, Beverly Hills, Montauk, Miami, during Art Basel Miami Beach, and at SPRING/BREAK Art Show (2015). Lee is a member of the editorial board of Reflektor magazine (Melbourne, Australia). He holds a Master of Arts degree in French from Middlebury College.

“It is a pleasure to collaborate with Friedrich, the partners and the entire gallery team on further raising the awareness of Petzel’s renowned artists and our outstandingly unique programming,” says Lee. “My eclectic background and skills have proven to be a welcome and appreciated fit at Petzel and I am looking forward to continuing to spread the word about the many exciting upcoming activities and experiences that we have planned for our reopened Chelsea and Upper East Side locations.”
