SOUTHAMPTON, PA..- This World War II Japanese calligraphy flag known as a "hinomaru yosegaki", or Good Luck Flag, was a traditional gift for Japanese servicemen deployed during military campaigns of the Empire of Japan. The flag would be artfully signed by friends and family with short messages wishing the soldier safety and good luck.
