BOULDER.- Rare / Important Greek Bronze Pilos Helmet. Greece, ca. 400 to 300 BCE. An ancient Greek bronze helmet of the Pilos type, of conical form with a recessed carinated band around the lower portion. A scrolled bronze crest attachment at the top and applique 'wheels' at the sides. Height: 10 1/2 in. (26.5 cm). Estimate: $25,000 – $35,000.

BOULDER.- Etruscan Black Figure Neck Amphora, TL Tested. Northern Italy, Etruria, ca. 6th century BCE. A large and impressive Etruscan pottery amphora of a fine form with a classic bulbous body upon a raised splayed foot, a thick rim at the top, and gracefully curved twin handles adjoining shoulder to neck, all hand painted in the black figure technique with dramatic mythological subject matter. Estimate: $25,000 – $50,000.

BOULDER.- Roman Marble Relief - Nude Satyr, Panther, Maenad Roman empire, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. Very fine marble relief, most likely a panel from a sarcophagus, depicting a standing Satyr, shown nude with good musculature, one hand reaching down toward a panther at his feet, a maenad with long flowing gown and section of nude left leg. A very showy piece! Custom base. Size: 11-5/8" x 11-3/8". Estimate: $15,000 – $20,000.

BOULDER.- Superb Roman Bronze Oil Lamp - Twin Nozzles Rome, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. This is a double-nozzled bronze oil lamp that has been cast with delineating curls. Wealthy families used and displayed metal lamps, and lamps with multiple nozzles that burned more fuel, as a display of their social standing and financial success. The form of this is beautiful; there is a similar piece held by the National Archaeological Museum in Naples. Size: 5.75" L x 5.8" W x 1.25" H (14.6 cm x 14.7 cm x 3.2 cm). Estimate: $6,000 – $9,000.

BOULDER.- Massive Ancient Chinese Bronze Ge, ex-Piscopo Ancient China, Warring States to early Han Dynasty, ca 450 to 100 BCE. Huge bronze pole axe, called a Ge, with lengthy blade that would have been attached to a long pole and swung with great speed and deadly consequences. This is the largest example we have ever seen, and we have been lucky enough to handle several of these. Includes custom stand. Size: 16" L x 6.75" H (40.6 cm x 17.1 cm). Estimate: $2,500 – $3,500.

BOULDER.- Japanese Edo / Meiji Ivory Netsuke - Tiger. Japan, Edo Period, ca. 18th to mid-19th century CE. Superb ivory netsuke (weight at the end of an Inro) in the form of a tiger. Snarling face and stripes indicated by folds in the tiger's pelt, twin holes for cord at base. Size: 1.625" W x 1.5" H (4.1 cm x 3.8 cm). Estimate: $1,000 – $1,500.

BOULDER.- Superb Mayan Polychrome Bowl - Rabbit, Monkeys, Deer. Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, Peten region of Guatemala, ca. 500 to 800 CE. Spectacular pottery jar decorated with very rare scene of animals in human activities. On one side a rabbit plays a drum while a monkey sits to his front offering a painted vessel over a ritual cylinder. On the other side a deer holds his "hand" out to receive a conch shell offering from another monkey. Between the monkeys is a large vat that is perhaps filled with hallucinogens. Size: 7.5" W x 6" H (19 cm x 15.2 cm) Estimate: $7,000 – $9,000.
