KNOXVILLE.- Modernist painter Beauford Delaney (American, 1901-1979) is remembered for his work with the Harlem Renaissance in the 1930s/'40s and also for the abstract expressionist works created after his move to Paris in 1953. It is believed that Delaney painted on found objects when he didn't have the money for artist's canvas. Shown at right is his abstract oil painted on a pillowcase. His later style is evident in the portrait of his mother, Delia, left, which Delaney painted in the early 1960s. Both artworks may be viewed and bid on through LiveAuctioneers.com catalog for Case Antiques' Jan. 24 auction. LIVEAUCTIONEERS AND JOHN CASE ANTIQUES PHOTO.
