New iPod Tour of Scully Exhibition at Hood Museum ofArt
HANOVER, NH.- Sean Scully’s paintings of bold stripes and color blocks featured in The Art of the Stripe are now part of the Hood’s first iPod tour, available free of charge to all visitors at the museum’s entrance during regular museum hours.

Recorded by Hood Director Brian Kennedy and artist Sean Scully and produced by Hood staff and Jones Media Center at Dartmouth College, the tour offers diverse options for listeners to hear Scully talk about each of the twenty-three paintings in the exhibition, learn why he has chosen to paint stripes, and hear his thoughts about several artists whom he admires, including Mondrian, Pollock, Rothko, and Matisse. The tour is a fascinating accompaniment to an exhibition that is “a deeply rewarding introduction to Scully’s work” (Alex Hanson, Valley News, 1/17/2008).

Sean Scully: The Art of the Stripe was organized by the Hood Museum of Art and is generously funded by the Marie-Louise and Samuel R. Rosenthal Fund; the Hansen Family Fund; the Ray Winfield Smith 1918 Fund; and the Leon C. 1927, Charles L. 1955, the Andrew J. 1984 Greenebaum Fund, and Yoko Otani and Shunichi Homma, Dartmouth Class of ’77. A post-exhibition illustrated catalogue will include essays exploring the use of the stripe in Western history and specifically in the art of Sean Scully, along with interviews with the artist.
