Second Global Design Contest by Tupperware
Forget gas prices, go plastic this year with "Tupperware's Formula One Racing Car," which will be one of the many Tupperware art pieces on display in New York City's Time Warner Center, as part of the Translations in Tupperware Global Design Contest.
NEW YORK.- The winners of the 2006 Translations in Tupperware® Global Design Contest were announced Wednesday, October 25 at Time Warner Center in New York City. Entries from Greece, France, India and the Philippines took top prizes and are the centerpieces of a global exhibit that features more than 20 pieces of artwork inspired by Tupperware® products, including a delicately designed chess board, a working clock and life-size lounge chair. The free exhibit is now open to the public each day at Time Warner Center from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., through Saturday, October 28.

The four winning pieces were selected by a panel of high-profile influencers and taste makers from the design industry including renowned architect, David Rockwell and Carl Magnusson, former Director of Design, for Knoll Inc. Winners were announced by Rick Goings, Chairman and CEO of Tupperware Brands Corporation.

"We commend all of the finalists on their amazing skill and unique vision that went into creating these extraordinary pieces of Tupperware-inspired art," said Mr. Goings. "This exhibit truly reflects the Tupperware philosophy of creating products that are not only practical and functional, but that are beautifully designed."

The 2006 winners are: Winner in Fashion Category: Evelyn Tabaniag from the Philippines created a collection of beaded handbags, constructed from Tupperware® Sandwich Keepers. Winner in Free Form Category: Kriss Ulve from France sculpted a unique and an intricate fish model. The deep blue and turquoise hues of the Tupperware® products perfectly captured the colors of the sea --which was Ulve's inspiration for the piece. Winner in Storytelling Category: Stella Filippou from Greece created a Formula One Racing Car model entirely from Tupperware® products. She compared the excitement and spirit of a Formula One Race to her experience within Tupperware. Winner in Utility Object Category: Rajeev Joshi from India created a kaleidoscope which was made from an assortment of contrasting shapes, sizes and colors of Tupperware® products.

The Translations in Tupperware® Global Design Contest invited consumers and designers from around the world to create a piece of art or unique functional product using Tupperware® products as their inspiration. The prize package for the winning entrants included a 6-day, 5-night trip for two to New York City and a $5,000 cash prize.

The judging panel included George M. Beylerian, Founder of Material ConneXion; John-Michael Ekeblad, former Tupperware Chief-Designer; Carl Magnusson, former Executive Vice President, Director of Design for Knoll Design; Linda O'Keeffe, Director of Design and Architecture for Metropolitan Home magazine; David Rockwell, Founder and CEO of Rockwell Group; Carleton Varney, president of Dorothy Draper & Carleton Varney Co.; and Laetitia Wolff, Senior Design Editor for Surface magazine and founding director of futureflair.

The Tupperware name symbolizes eminently practical and beautiful design. In 2005, a survey by HFN Magazine ranked the Tupperware® brand the most recognizable name in the food storage category in the United States. In 2003, Good Housekeeping magazine awarded the Stuffable® Storage Containers their coveted "Good Buy" Award in 2004 and again in 2004 for FlatOut!(TM) Containers. Additionally, the products have won design awards in the United States, Europe and Japan. In 2001, Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum awarded Tupperware the "National Design Award for Corporate Achievement" in recognition of its outstanding design.
