LONDON.- Dame Julia Peyton-Jones has been appointed Senior Global Director of Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac. Formerly Director of the Serpentine Galleries for 25 years, Peyton-Jones will take on her ambassadorial and curatorial role on 1 September 2017, and will be based in London, where the gallery opened a new space in Mayfair earlier this year.

“Julia Peyton-Jones is one of the most respected and admired figures in the art world with an unparalleled level of experience. It will be an honour and a joy to work together and develop exciting new projects.” (Thaddaeus Ropac)

Julia Peyton-Jones says: “I am delighted to be joining Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac at this exciting time, following the opening of its remarkable new gallery in London. For over 30 years, Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac has showcased the careers of some of the most brilliant and influential artists. I look forward to building on this impressive exhibition history, with Thaddaeus and his team, as the gallery extends its ambition and international presence. I simply cannot wait to get started!”.

During her time as Director of the Serpentine Galleries from 1991 to 2016, Julia Peyton-Jones worked with many of the world’s leading artists on ground-breaking exhibitions, education, public programmes and projects, transforming the Serpentine in London into an internationally acclaimed visual arts institution. In 2000, she initiated the Serpentine’s innovative architecture programme by commissioning a renowned architect to design a Pavilion each summer.

Having won many awards and honours for her achievements at the Serpentine, Julia Peyton-Jones was appointed Officer Order of the British Empire in 2003 and Dame Commander of the British Empire in 2016. Peyton-Jones now serves on the boards of a number of public and not-for-profit organisations and she is a sought-after speaker on art, architecture and creative leadership.
