HONG KONG.- On 19 January 2017, Boundless: Contemporary Art, Sotheby’s Hong Kong’s lifestyle-oriented auction series beginning in 2012, sails into its fifth year. A cross-discipline array of modern and contemporary art, design furniture, artist jewellery, street art, and 20th century photography will be presented at Sotheby’s Hong Kong Gallery. This season’s highlights include works by renowned artists from Asia and the West including Pablo Picasso, Banksy, George Condo, Yoshitomo Nara, Cindy Sherman, Keith Haring and Zao Wou-Ki, among others. The sale, amassing over 130 lots, is estimated at HK$29million – 40million/ US$3.74million – 7.47milion.

Isaure de Viel Castel, Head of Boundless Sales at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, said: ‘Boundless: Contemporary Art began five years ago with a commitment to supporting the art of collecting not only as a passion, but also as a way of life. This pioneering series of sales featuring both Western and Asian works in a variety of genres and disciplines has set the exemplar in Hong Kong, where, over the years, its lifestyle focus attracts a dedicated following of new as well as young collectors. Having recently achieved the highest series total on record (HK$52.8million/ US$6.8million) in June 2016, Boundless: Contemporary Art will continue to delight enthusiasts this season with exceptional works from across the globe, most notably the iconic furniture of Guy de Rougemont making their auction debut in Asia.’

This season’s forthcoming Boundless: Contemporary Art sale marks the Asia auction debut of French artist Guy de Rougemont. A synthesis of Minimalism and Pop Art, Rougemont’s works are characterised by the use of bold, joyful colours combined with fluid, organic forms composed of cylinders, ellipses, totems and serpentine lines. The artist’s instantly-recognisable style has elevated him to icon status in the worlds of fine art and furniture design. Among a total of nine works presented in this sale is his signature Red Cloud Table, created in 1970, which achieved prices over US$200,000 at auction in 2011 and 2013.
