James A. Michener Art Museum announces new Senior Curator of Exhibitions
New Senior Curator of Exhibitions, Kirsten Jensen, Ph.D.
DOYLESTOWN, PA.- Michener Art Museum Director & CEO Lisa Tremper Hanover announced the appointment of Kirsten Jensen, Ph.D. as the new Senior Curator of Exhibitions. Jensen’s specialty is American Art, with a specific strength in the artistic heritage of Bucks County. Jensen earned her Ph.D. with distinction from The Graduate Center, City University of New York, and brings a strong background in research and curatorial achievements from appointments with the Hudson River Museum, the Frick Collection and the Andrew Mellon Foundation. Jensen has been the Director of the John F. Folinsbee Catalogue Raisonné for the past ten years.

"In addition to curatorial projects specific to American Art, Kirsten will oversee the temporary exhibition schedule. She will work with staff to develop diverse and engaging exhibitions that will enhance the visitor experience and heighten awareness in the community and beyond. Kirsten's enthusiasm for the Michener Art Museum is matched by the wealth of talent she brings to this organization. I look forward to introducing her to our Michener family," notes Hanover.

Jensen has an extensive record of publications in American Art, including the 2013 book Folinsbee Considered, a complement to the on-line Folinsbee Catalogue Raisonné, and the exhibition catalogue for Industrial Sublime: Modernism and the Transformation of New York's Rivers, 1900-1940. She spent her teens in nearby Oxford and her early college years in Lancaster and Pittsburgh.

"As a curator, scholar and museum professional, I am firmly dedicated to exploring new and creative methods to make American Art from all historical periods exciting and relevant to contemporary audiences. I am most stimulated by projects-lectures, exhibitions, or collection installations-that reveal new stories or present existing narratives in innovative ways using technology as well as more traditional exhibition materials, to engage visitors and enhance their cultural experiences," Jensen stated.

Jensen will be relocating to the Doylestown area from Connecticut and will be on-site full time beginning August 15, 2014. She will begin work on several projects in advance of her arrival in support of the Michener's future exhibition schedule.
