MARIN COUNTY, CA.- Marin Open Studios is a vibrant, community wide event that celebrates Marin’s rich culture of art. This annual, free, self-guided art tour in Marin County marks its 21st year the first two weekends in May 2014. Art patrons, admirers, and collectors can venture out on a self-guided tour to see artists and their artworks and glimpse into the life of the working artist.

Marin County is known not only its natural beauty, but for the quality and quantity of the artists it attracts. Per capita, more artists live in Marin than in any other county in the United States! Over 250 artists open their doors to show their work spaces and share both works in progress and completed pieces. Artwork is for sale and there is a chance to experience the magic of art through exchange of ideas and conversations about creativity and techniques. Attendees will be inspired by painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, graphics, print-making, glass, jewelry, mixed media and more!

Painter Kay Carlson, one of the co-founders of Marin Open Studios, took the helm again three years ago. “I had a vision in 1993 that Marin artists could become visible to the community and one another by exhibiting their Artwork. I am proud to be a part of 250 artists this year who are sharing their unique creative perspective. We have a strong passion for the arts, which is a gift that keeps giving back to the culture of Marin.”

Plan your Open Studios Tour with the comprehensive Artist Guide that includes a driving map, a bicycle map, highlights and images of artist’s works. Visit the Marin Open Studios website for digital version for the guide as well as a list of locations where guides are available. The guide will also be distributed in the May issue of Marin Magazine.

The best way to plan a tour is to visit the Preview Gallery Exhibition in the Bon Air Center in Greenbrae. Each of the participating artists has one of their works on display and artist docents are on hand to answer questions. The Gallery Exhibition at Bon Air Center opens April 22 and stays open one week past open studios until May 17. Closing day is the Bon Air Center’s Spring Fair, a celebration of local food, recreation, health and artful living. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 11-6pm, Sunday 11-5pm. Closed on Mondays. The Preview Gala on April 26th from 5-8 is the ART PARTY of the YEAR, is open to the public, and kicks off the event. Marin Open Studios is a 510(c)3 non-profit arts organization.
