WARSAW, POLAND (AP).-
Britain says it is donating 2.1 million pounds ($3.4 million) to a fund that will help preserve the Auschwitz-Birkenau
memorial site over the coming decades.
British officials announced the decision for the donation on Thursday.
Guardians of the memorial site in southern Poland launched an effort in 2009 to raise euro120 million for a so-called Perpetual Fund that will pay for preserving barracks, gas chambers and other evidence of Nazi German crimes at the site.
The Auschwitz memorial museum said the donation by the government of British Prime Minister David Cameron brings the foundation a step closer to its goal.
