GLENS FALLS, NY.-
The Hyde Collection
announced the debut of its new website, aimed at broadening the Museums connection with cyber-visitors of all ages and interests.
In addition to the new format, which features monthly event and activity highlights, as well as Hyde News on the homepage, now presents excerpts from the Museums new orientation video, along with podcasts featuring personal views of works from The Hydes permanent collection.
We want to engage our web visitors and also make it as easy as possible for them to explore the Museum and its offerings online, said Setford. Having highlights with full credit lines showcases our wonderful collection, and the addition of audio descriptions of key works, described by our volunteer docents, brings greater depth to our online presentation.
Other site features include a Museum blog and a search function for major works from the permanent collection. In addition to connections via Facebook, the new site also offers social networking through Twitter and video via YouTube.
This new site was part of a larger Engaging Communities project funded through a major grant by IMLS (The Institute for Museum and Library Services). In addition to making the website more interactive and broadening the learning opportunities on line, the grant also allowed us to produce additions to the Museum offerings such as the self-guided audio tours, educational Family Kits for use with young children, and the orientation film introduced in January of this year, said Setford.
