Employment Opportunity at the Nevada Museum of Art, Museum Looking for Curatorial Assistant
RENO, NV.- The Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, Nevada seeks a creative and self-motivated curatorial assistant to support the daily activities of the curatorial department. This position reports to the Curator of Exhibitions and Collections. Founded in 1931, the Museum is the only AAM accredited art museum in Nevada. The collections and exhibitions of the Museum extend from late 19th century to 21st century and have a particular focus on art and the environment, both regionally and internationally. The Nevada Museum of Art launched a new Center for Art + Environment in January 2009.

RESPONSIBILITIES
 Responsible for a range of clerical projects related to the organization and daily administration of the curatorial department. Respond to and track general curatorial department correspondence related to individual artist and exhibition submissions, and general research inquiries.
 Coordinate and serve as liaison to the Museum’s Collections Committee. Conduct research and write essays on proposed acquisitions. Take minutes at Committee Meetings.
 Maintain exhibition archives and artist files. Coordinate all artist and institutional exhibition closure packets. Assist with the production of publications and copyright permission projects. Manage the distribution of publications.
 Coordinate exhibitions in the Museum’s smaller galleries as assigned. Participate in Exhibition Team planning meetings and complete tasks related to exhibition preparation. Prepare, design, and fabricate exhibition labels, and assist, as needed, in the gallery during exhibition installations.
 Assist the Curator, Registrar, and Preparator with various additional tasks as required. Assist with the management of department interns. Maintain general department correspondence with artists and collectors of interest to the Museum.

REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must have a B.A. in art history or a related field with at least one year experience in a curatorial department in an art museum or an art gallery is highly recommended. Excellent interpersonal, writing, and organizational skills required. Candidate must be self-motivated and a team player.

LOCATION
Nestled between the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada and the Great Basin, Reno enjoys a mild climate. The most rapidly growing state in the nation, Nevada has an influx of new businesses, a thriving university population, and significant government, mining, construction and ranching interests. The area has experienced over a 40% increase in population since 1990. Reno is a wonderful community for individuals and families with excellent neighborhoods, housing, and public schools and good quality of life. Reno is a 3 ½--4 hour drive from the San Francisco Bay Area and an easy 1 ½ hour flight to Los Angeles.
