Raymond Martinez Returns to the London Art Scene with Exhibition at the Gallery in Cork Street

LONDON.- Raymond Martinez, is a Spanish-Welsh landscape artist who after 30 years of living in Italy has returned to the London art scene. He is now re-launching himself with an exhibition at The Gallery in Cork Street, Mayfair consisting of an entire new body of work created over the last 25 years, which includes a selection of oils on canvas and paper influenced by his residence in Tuscany.

Raymond says “Nature has an infinite beauty and creativity and I have always had a sense of wonder at how seasons move from one to another. In these works I have attempted to capture and communicate the poetry inherent in these cyclical transitions.”

Raymond, born in Barry, South Wales studied at Cardiff College of Art and The Slade where he won both the figurative and landscape prizes in 1961. After winning the Gulbenkian Foundation Award and the Abbey Major Scholarship to Rome his love affair with Italy began and he spent the last 30 years living and painting there until his recent return to London. He exhibited extensively throughout the 60’s and 70’s at the well established London Lefevre Gallery as well as in Florence, Rome, Tokyo and Florida. In addition his works are included in a number of public collections such as the Government Art Collection, Castle Museum Nottingham, the Contemporary Art Society of Wales.
