Jersey City Museum Announces Open Call
JERSEY CITY, NJ.-Jersey City Museum announced an open call for submissions for I ♥ JC, a new exhibition of photographs that be will on view at the museum June 25th thru September 14th, 2008. For this special exhibition, the museum is inviting the public to send in their 4 x 6 inch images of Jersey City. These photographs will then be complied and installed on a giant wall at the museum in order to create a large-scale collage featuring images of our beloved Jersey City, taken by its own citizens.

What does Jersey City mean to you? Why do you live in Jersey City? What does living here represent to you? What is the single thing you love most about Jersey City? Which areas of life in Jersey City could use improvement? Who are the heroes of Jersey City? How do you identify as a citizen of Jersey City? Photographs that represent these and other questions, either directly or abstractly, are recommended. The museum is looking for images that show the public’s pride in, and opinion of, their very unique and diverse city.

Interested individuals should submit printed 4 x 6 inch images in any color and in horizontal or vertical format. Contact information along with the submission, including name, address, phone and email address, should also be submitted. SUBMISSIONS WILL NOT BE RETURNED, so original copies are not recommended. All submissions must be received via USPS mail by Friday, June 6, 2008 and sent to:

Founded in 1901, the Jersey City Museum is the major presenter of contemporary art serving the people of Jersey City, Hudson County and the region. The museum organizes many group and solo exhibitions every year, featuring works by culturally diverse, contemporary artists and from its 10,000-piece collection of regional significant art and historical objects. Through exhibitions, educational initiatives and programs, the museum welcomes over 25,000 visitors each year, including 11,000 school-aged children and youth.

Jersey City Museum’s gallery hours are Wednesday and Friday from 11am to 5pm, Thursday from 11am to 8pm and weekends from 12pm to 5pm. Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for seniors and students, and free for children under 12 and museum members. Admission is free for all on Thursday evenings from 5 to 8pm. Jersey City Museum is located at 350 Montgomery Street at Monmouth in the Historic Downtown District of Jersey City, within walking distance of the Grove Street PATH and Jersey Avenue Light Rail stations.
