Terra Foundation adds Raymond J. McGuire and Jay Xu to Board of Directors
Dr. Jay Xu is Director and CEO of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco.

CHICAGO, IL.- The Terra Foundation for American Art welcomes two new members to its board of directors: Raymond J. McGuire, Vice Chairman of Citigroup and Chairman of Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory; and Dr. Jay Xu, Director and CEO of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco.

“Ray McGuire and Jay Xu, both at the top of their respective fields and passionate ambassadors for American art, lend rich and unique perspectives to the Terra Foundation for American Art board of directors,” said Joseph P. Gromacki, chairman of the Terra Foundation’s board. “Along with all members of the board, they each play an integral role in advancing the foundation’s mission—to foster the exploration, understanding, and enjoyment of the visual arts of the United States for audiences across the globe—through new and innovative partnerships. We look forward to their contributions.”

In addition to his roles at Citigroup, Raymond J. McGuire is active on many business, non-profit and cultural boards, including the American Museum of Natural History, the De La Salle Academy, the Hotchkiss School, the New York City Police Foundation, the New York-Presbyterian Hospital, the New York Public Library, the Studio Museum in Harlem, Think450, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among others. Mr. McGuire is also a member of the Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission for the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, and ARTnews includes him as part of its list of “Top 200 Collectors.” He received his AB, MBA, and JD from Harvard University.

As director and CEO of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, Dr. Jay Xu is the first Chinese American director of a major US art museum. Under his leadership, the museum has organized a wide range of Asian art exhibitions, made significant acquisitions, and embarked on a multiyear transformation of the visitor experience that includes a major new exhibition pavilion and art terrace. His vision for the Asian Art Museum is to embrace and explore the interconnectivity between Asia and the rest of the world, and between traditional and contemporary artistic practices. Dr. Xu obtained his PhD in early Chinese art and archaeology at Princeton University, and he has more than 30 years of international museum experience as a research scholar, curator, and museum director. A dedicated, award-winning scholar of Chinese art, Dr. Xu is well-published, particularly on ancient Chinese bronzes and archaeology, and has lectured extensively on Asian art and museum practice. He was elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2015.

“The Terra Foundation’s board and staff are thrilled to have Mr. McGuire and Dr. Xu join our board of directors—a dedicated group of leaders in academia, business management, communications, finance and investment, law, philanthropy, and the visual arts of the United States,” shared Terra Foundation president and CEO Elizabeth Glassman. “With the abundance of expertise and experience Ray and Jay bring to the table, the foundation will continue to cultivate conversations on American art around the globe in thoughtful and exciting ways.”
