Prince's personal Bible, suits, Purple Rain LP saved by former bodyguard offered at Heritage Auctions
Prince Personally Owned Travel Bible.

DALLAS, TX.- The Bible owned and carried by Prince and the rock star's personally-owned copy of his smash album Purple Rain cross the auction block July 21 from a collection of memorabilia owned by the rock star's former bodyguard.

Offered in Heritage Auctions' Entertainment & Music Memorabilia Auction. the Bible and album highlight an extraordinary array of 27 personal items owned by the music icon, ranging from clothing to backstage passes.

"Prince's musical and cultural impact can not be overstated," Heritage Auctions Consignment Director Mike Gutierrez said. "He was a brilliant musician, singer, composer, director. Anything relating to Prince has significant appeal to collectors, but to have lots like this, that he owned and wore represents and extraordinary trove of treasures from one of the great musical influencers of our generation."

Prince was known for his flashy sense of style, but this Prince Personally Owned and Worn Silk Suit (est. $20,000) was among his choices for off-stage attire. With a jacket and pants custom-tailored in navy blue silk, it includes velvet and black Russian braid trim adorned with black plastic gem-cut beads, silk lining and two black braided buttons at the back. The pants, with velvet trim at the waist, feature a single shallow pocket and a double-clasp fly, and the flared leg style many consider synonymous with the Minnesota musician.

Among the signature accessories for the artist is a Prince Personally Owned and Worn White Metal Ear Cuff (est. $10,000), the crescent-shaped bauble is an adornment he wore off stage – to clubs, etc., according to his former bodyguard, who consigned it – as well as on stage. The construction, with seven zirconium stones inlaid in white metal, is easily explained: the artist occasionally would become annoyed with it or uncomfortable, in which case h would take it off and simply drop it wherever he was.

Another item from his flashy wardrobe is a Prince Personally Owned and Stage Worn White Double-Breasted Silk Jacket (est. $10,000). Worn on stage, in photoshoots and socially, it features a four-button closure (one button is missing), as well as a silk lining with an ornate floral pattern and metallic silver pinstripes. The label reads "Lords / Hand Made USA / Exclusively." Although no size is listed, the artist reportedly stood just 5 feet, 3 inches tall. The jacket measures 17 inches from one shoulder to the other, with 23-inch sleeves and comes with a black silk handkerchief found in pocket, copies of photo matches and a signed certificate of authenticity.

A Prince Personally Owned and Stage Worn Black Silk Outfit (est. $7,000) was among his personal selections on and off stage. It includes a flatblack silk shirt (with no label present or size noted) with sleeves measuring 22 inches long and measuring 17 inches from shoulder to shoulder, and black silk pants with a button fly, flared leg and label reading "Arturo Padilla" also with no size noted. Pants measure 37 inches from top of waist to bottom of cuff. Another lot from the archive of his former bodyguard, the suit comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.

Legions of fans knew Prince as an enormously talented performer with flamboyant style and tastes. He also was deeply spiritual, a Jehovah's Witness who carried a 1984 printing of the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures, the Holy Bible published by the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society, and used by the Jehovah's Witnesses church. This Prince Personally Owned Travel Bible (est. $7,000), bound in black leather with a zipper protecting the inner pages, was gifted to Prince by a Witness in the UK while attending a service at a Kingdom Hall.

According to the consignor, Prince then carried it with him frequently on tour. After a two-year debate with friend, musician, and fellow Jehovah's Witness Larry Graham, Prince joined the Witnesses in 2001. He was very active in his faith, and attended Kingdom Hall regularly. The Bible is accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity.

The star's personally owned copy of Purple Rain (est. $3,000), Prince and the Revolution's seminal 1984 masterpiece album, was carried with the singer by his trusted bodyguard in a special record bag. Prince wanted his own copy of the cut-out stereo vinyl album with him at all times as he traveled the world. With 25 million copies sold, Purple Rain is widely regarded as the star's magnum opus and one of the best albums in music history.
