Artist Raphael Daden to Create Light Based Artwork
Raphael Daden, Light Waves (2006).

LONDON.- The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham (LBBD) has commissioned artist Raphael Daden to create light based artwork for the centre of Barking as part of the regeneration of the town.

The Light Waves by Raphael Daden, is an interactive and stunning lighting installation at the underpass of Wakering Road, linking the new award winning housing development of Tanner Street with the station and retail quarter.

"My starting point for the subway was to produce a piece that transforms its environment through the interaction of light colour and movement. I want viewers to be drawn in by the intensity and depth of colour and light created by the work and within its environment. I feel the seductive aesthetics of light and colour generates a positive area for the visitors and inhabitants of this area, and give people the chance to experience an individual artwork/installation".

"When you enter the underpass a sensors triggers your movement and pulses of light from both ends follows you to the centre of the underpass then setting of the middle circles". The design involves a schematic eye shape: "I wanted to have a sense of light following you through the underpass. When there are no moving subjects the whole artwork will be a slow and subtle spectrum of colour changing". (Raphael Daden).
