Big Ben
Big Ben is the famous four faced clock that sits in east end tower at the Houses of Parliament, Westminster, London. The clock is famous for its accuracy and for its bell. The tower clock is named for Sir Benjamin Hall, commissioner of works at its installation in 1859. Originally, the name "Big Ben" referred only to the clock’s 13-ton bell designed by Edmund Beckett, Baron Grimthorpe. The bell alone weighs over 13,500 kilos. It is the second bell made for the clock, as the first one was broken during a trial use. The clock and works are made from copper. The sounding of Big Ben has become the symbol of Great Britain, its chimes being transmitted daily over the BBC radio station.
