LONDON.- A set of David Bowie's handwritten lyrics to his track, The Jean Genie valued at £12,000-£15,000 will lead the way at the forthcoming Entertainment Memorabilia sale at Bonhams, Knightsbridge on 3rd July.

The lyrics, signed and dated 1972 by Bowie on lined notepaper, were given to the founder of Bowie’s New York fan club. The Jean Genie appeared on the 1973 album Aladdin Sane, Bowie’s first number one album.

Accompanying this rare manuscript are a collection of items documenting David Bowie’s illustrious career and numerous personas, including an early contract for David Bowie and Hutch dated 1969, signed by Bowie estimated at £1,200-£1,800 and a cardinal red Vox twelve-string electric guitar which was used by David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust during the promotion of his 1972 album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars which is offered with an estimate of £10,000-£15,000.

Further highlights from the Rock and Pop section of the sale include Led Zeppelin guitarist, Jimmy Page’s personally owned and played Martin ‘Birthday Special 2007’ acoustic guitar, estimated at £10,000-15,000. Famously played by Page while performing at Roy Harper’ 70th Birthday celebration at the Royal Festival Hall, this custom guitar with inlayed Led Zeppelin Zodiac symbols and Jimmy’s name, has been donated by Page to the Action for Brazil’s Children Trust, for which he is a patron. Bonhams is delighted to offer this on the Charity’s behalf.

As ‘The Man of Steel’ returns to cinema screens, Superman’s only weakness – ‘kryptonite’ also appears in the form of a large crystal prop made for the 1983 production of Superman III. It is valued at £3,000-£5,000.

Additionally, Bonhams will be helping to raise money for The Trade Justice Movement by offering a large canvas painting by Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and artist/collaborator Stanley Donwood, who has designed all Radiohead’s album artwork and poster campaigns since their seminal album The Bends. The impressive artwork was created in the lead up to ‘Make Poverty History’ in 2005 and is estimated at £3,500-£4,000.

Other top lots are Eric Stewarts 10cc Fender Rhodes suitcase piano used during numerous recordings and appearances. The instrument features on 10cc’s hit singles including I’m Not in Love and The Things We Do for Love and is estimated at £5,000-£7,000.

The sale will include photography, signatures and ephemera relating to the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and the Punk movement. An extensive collection of Silver, Gold and Platinum record awards presented to influential producer Mike Stone for his work with Queen, Journey and Whitesnake are offered with estimates ranging from £200-£1,200.

The bi-annual Entertainment Memorabilia auction will also encompass collectable movie posters, costume and props from classic film and television. Highlights to be offered this summer are a collection of actress Vivien Leigh’s personal effects, including a pair of gold St. Genesius charm necklaces with personalised engravings gifted between Vivien Leigh and John Merivale which are valued at £700-£900. An array of James Bond vintage film posters from 1962 to 2006 are offered for sale as well as a renowned Bond ally Tiger Tanaka’s marital arts costume estimated between £500-£700 and made for the film, You Only Live Twice.
