BATH.- The light installation Circuit: A Light Labyrinth is a completely new artwork by Martin Richman and Charlie Kerr. It is uniquely displayed at the Holburne Museum this winter. Visitors are able to walk through delicate strands of different coloured light in a web-like maze of light and sound.

Circuit: A Light Labyrinth is a seasonal treat in the back garden of the Holburne Museum , Bath following the success of Bruce Munro’s Field of Light installation last year. It is created by award-winning artist Martin Richman, whose previous work includes Bristol Bridge and London 2012.

Alexander Sturgis, Director of the Holburne said, “We are delighted to be able to bring lights back to our garden this Christmas and offer our visitors this beautiful artwork following on from last year’s Field of Light. This year there is the added enticement of being able to lose yourself amidst the glowing threads and evocative sounds of the installation. ”

Martin Richman said, “The Museum was once an hotel that led into adjacent eighteenth century pleasure gardens which were frequented by patrons who enjoyed grottos, illuminations, a labyrinth and perhaps a saucy dalliance in the protective shadows.

We hope to create an engaging visual and aural experience for all ages to participate within, which will engender echoes of history and place, providing an engaging, transformative experience of the garden of the Holburne as turns are taken and turned again.”

Charlie Kerr said, “While in the maze the participant will hear sounds, music, snatches of conversation in an aural tapestry reminiscent of Georgian Bath with echoes of our own time woven through the sound picture by a generative compositional element inspired by the inner machinations of the human brain.”

The Holburne is grateful to the sponsors of the new art work including Fielden Clegg Bradley Studios who said, “Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios are delighted to be sponsoring Circuit: A Light Labyrinth at The Holburne Museum.

We have previously collaborated with the artist Martin Richman to create the unique and distinctive façade to our newly completed business school for Manchester Metropolitan University . We are looking forward to seeing the Christmas installation magically light up the Holburne and the city of Bath .”

Mogers Solicitors are also sponsoring the installation and Steven Treharne, managing partner, said: “As a local family firm we are keen to support events which showcase Bath on a local and national level and which offer experiences for all generations. We are sure this will be a superb community event and I am looking forward to visiting with my children as it is set to be a truly festive and unique event.”

Andrew Cashin Operational Account Manager for benugo said, “As the Holburne’s catering partner we are proud to be supporting this seasonal event which will transform the garden views from the Café for our visitors.”
