DALLAS, TX.- A 1792 Disme in Copper, Judd-10, PR62 Brown NGC brought $587,500 as the top lot in
Heritage Auctions ANA U.S. Coins Signature® Auction, held in conjunction with the American Numismatic Associations annual National Money Show, Oct. 18-20, at the Dallas Convention Center. Collectors focused heavily on rare examples of early American coinage and high grade gold.
The auction was a rousing success, said Greg Rohan, President of heritage Auctions. As the auction was in Dallas, our backyard, we felt compelled to make a strong showing. When all was said and done, combining both the results of U.S. Coins along with the Currency offerings, we are looking at an event total of more than $28 million strong across the board.
In all, the U. S. Coins auctions saw 7,621 lots selling, resulting in a 97% sell-through rate by value, generating $23.1 million in total sales. The Currency Signature® Auction, also held in conjunction with the ANA Money Show, saw more than 4,000 lots sell, translating into a strong 92.9% sell-through rate by value for a $5.3+ million total.
An extraordinary 1802 Dollar, PR64 PCGS, also known as a novodel one of just four such specimens known sold for $411,250 in the auction, amidst spirited bidding. The auction appearance comes just two months after Heritage offered another novodel in Long Beach, Calif., in early September.
Another Featured Collection, The Gnome at the Shore Collection, complemented the Greensboro offerings with important 19th century gold. An 1882 double eagle graded PR66 Ultra Cameo NGC, CAC, one of just 59 proofs struck in a year famous for its low business-strike production of just 571 pieces, realized $293,750. An 1870-CC double eagle, XF40 NGC, comes from the first year of coinage at the legendary Carson City Mint in western Nevada and is one of just a few dozen survivors known. It realized $193,875.
