LONDON.- Sotheby’s announced the appointment of Yamini Mehta as International Head of Indian and Southeast Asian Antiquities / Modern and Contemporary South Asian Art. Based in London, Yamini will be in charge of Sotheby’s worldwide selling strategy for the two related South Asian areas, working with our team of international experts and developing key relationships with Sotheby’s Indian clients. A veteran of the Indian Art market, Yamini joins Sotheby’s after 14 years at Christie’s where, since 2006, she has headed the London Modern and Contemporary Indian Art department.

Yamini Mehta commented: “I am thrilled to be joining Sotheby’s at such an exciting time for the market, with its profile at an all-time high and Indian artists increasingly recognised on the global stage. Sotheby’s is making major commitments in this collecting area and I am so pleased to be joining a great institution that has been a pioneer in the field. I look forward to working with Sotheby’s talented specialist teams on an international level and seeing the market place develop and expand to new heights.”

Robin Woodhead Chairman, Sotheby’s International said: “Sotheby’s is delighted to welcome Yamini Mehta, who, I know will be a great asset to our international Indian and South East Asian Art team. She comes to the company with an impressive track record, responsible for helping to develop the rapidly growing market for Modern and Contemporary Indian Art. With her vast experience, and close links with collectors in India, Asia and the US, she will be able to further consolidate Sotheby’s presence in this important area of our business.”
