Rose pendant tops Bonhams August auction of jewelry and watches

CARMEL, CA.- Bonhams auction of jewelry and watches, August 17 at Quail Lodge in Carmel, Calif., brought a successful $308,563, and was led by the $13,750 sale of a diamond rose pendant/ring (est. $8,000-10,000).

The auction, held alongside Bonhams 15th Annual Sale of Exceptional Motorcars, Motorcycles and Related Automobilia during Pebble Beach Car Week, saw particular success with its bracelet sales. The categories’ top lots included a multicolor sapphire and diamond wide bracelet, which brought $13,125 (est. $7,500-9,500); a diamond and pink and yellow sapphire rolling bangle bracelet, which achieved $9,375 (est. $8,000-10,000); and a yellow sapphire and diamond peacock feather cuff bracelet, which took in $8,750 (est. $5,000-7,000).

Necklaces, too, stood out in the auction, with top sales of a diamond rivière necklace, which sold for $9,375 (est. $5,000-7,000); an eighteen karat bicolor gold link necklace by Pomellato, which realized $8,125 (est. 4,000-6,000); and a diamond and eighteen karat bicolor gold heart motif necklace, which took in $7,500 (est. $6,500-7,500).

Of the sale, Deborah Boskin, Jewelry Specialist at Bonhams, said, “Bold, contemporary and signed pieces ruled the day. The successful results exhibited the strength of today’s jewelry market.”

Wristwatches are always a popular draw at the Carmel-based auction, and at this sale they were led by two Franck Miller designs: an 18k rose gold chronograph wristwatch, that brought $9,375 (est. $8,000-12,000) and an 18k white gold chronograph wristwatch, that realized $7,500 (est. $6,000-8,000). Other examples of note included a Rolex stainless steel bracelet wristwatch, that brought $3,750 (est. $3,000-5,000) and a Chopard stainless steel automatic wrist chronograph, with date, that took in $3,125 (est. $2,500-3,500).

Also of note in the sale was a pair of colored diamond hoop earrings, which sold for $8,750 (est. $8,000-10,000), and unique automobilia-themed pieces, such as a diamond, ruby, emerald and black onyx classic car brooch, that took in $2,500 (est. $1,000-1,500) and a pair of diamond, ruby and eighteen karat gold British taxicab cufflinks, that brought $1,875 (est. $1,500-2,000).
