SYDNEY.- NSW Premier Kristina Keneally today announced plans for a major exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, about the Australian success story and international entertainment phenomenon, The Wiggles.

The exhibition will be developed by the Powerhouse Museum in collaboration with The Wiggles to celebrate the group’s 20th anniversary next year. It will open at the Powerhouse Museum in September 2011 for a twelve month season before embarking on a five year national, including regional Australia, and international tour.

Since releasing their first self-titled album in 1991, The Wiggles have become one of the most popular and successful performing acts in Australia and overseas. Their awards for albums and videos, coupled with their extraordinary sales figures, would be the envy of any contemporary artist.

More importantly, the group’s ability to relate to their young audience and to create songs that are both entertaining and educational has made The Wiggles hugely popular with both children and their parents. The devotion of their enormous, young fan-base sees tickets to their live shows snapped up within minutes.

“Anthony, Murray, Jeff and Sam and the characters they have created are a part of the lives of so many children. This wonderful new exhibition will bring the magic of The Wiggles’ story to life in a uniquely interactive environment that is exciting and engaging for all ages,” said Director of the Powerhouse Museum, Dr Dawn Casey.

Visitors to the exhibition will find out much more about the band members and their friends including Dorothy the Dinosaur, Wags the Dog, Henry the Octopus and Captain Feathersword. The exhibition will feature Wiggles props, costumes, musical instruments, posters, awards and more, as well as plenty of interactive displays.

“Kids will be able to experience The Wiggles’ humour, fun and music in a colourful, safe and immersive exhibition. While adults will be able to enjoy the story of The Wiggles over twenty years, their history and achievements, and the goodwill they have created worldwide,” said Dr Dawn Casey.

“We’re really honoured to have an exhibition based on our career. We spend a lot of time travelling the world but Sydney is our home so that makes the exhibition even more special. We might even learn something about ourselves we don’t know!” said Murray Cook, member of The Wiggles.

Fans are encouraged to join The Wiggle exhibition fan club for exclusive offers, exhibition updates and the opportunity for first-release tickets.
