Art Taipei 2010, the Longest-Standing Art Fair in Asia, Opens

TAIPEI CITY.- Art Taipei, whose former name is Taipei Art Fair International, is the most long-standing art fair in Asia. Since 1992, on the demanding from both galleries and collectors, Art Taipei has been organized by Art Gallery Association for 17 years.
The attraction of Art Taipei is Chinese arts. Art Taipei is the most experienced and professional art fair trading Chinese arts. This is depends on the great knowledge and relationship of Taiwan galleries. By 1995, Art Taipei innovated and became an international art event. Besides galleries form Korea, Japan and Southeast Asia, there were also some participants form Europe and North America. After 2000, with the open policy between Taiwan and China, galleries form China and Hong Kong have increased and Art Taipei now is truly the most important platform for Chinese arts.

Art Taipei is also well known because of our foresight. From 2004, “Artist of the Year “, “Art Project” , “Ela -Video” and start from 2008, “Made in Taiwan – Young Artist Discovery” projects not only bring great art into Taiwan but also push Taiwan emerging artists into international stage. In Art Taipei 2006, two new sectors “Asia Live” and “Ela-Video” focus more on contemporary and electronic arts. In 2010, one new sector “Art Taipei PHOTO” focuses on contemporary photography, conception photography and fashion photography.

Through these pioneering projects, we guarantee Art Taipei a professional art fair in presenting Asian art creation as well as the best venue for trading Asian arts.

The Taiwan art market has been mature sine 1980's. Taiwan collectors have been brought up from this established environment, and now they are the best collectors in Chinese community. To serve these collectors is our first mission. It is also the power to make Art Taipei improved and transformed into a contemporary art fair.

Art Taipei 2009 held from August 28th to September 1st closed on a very high note. The number of participated exhibitors was 78 and 37 international exhibitors amongst them. The seven sub-themed sections of Art Taipei 2009 providing the audience various stimulation of art; they are Art Galleries, Ela-Asia, Year Project – Art & environment, Made in Taiwan – Young Artist Discovery, Art Now – Southeast Asia, International Art Media. The exhibiting galleries considered this year's Art Taipei a great success. Both attendance and transactions made a new record. During the five-day exhibition, this international gathering of the art world attracted 50,000 artists, collectors, curators, and art lovers from around the globe. The transactions amount, USD 14.5 millions, In terms of quantity and quality, Art Taipei 2009 once proved to be one of the best international arts fair in Asia.

The fifth edition of Art Taipei Forum (Asia Art Economy Forum in Taipei), is holding during Art Taipei in August 21st, 22nd and 23rd , 2010 also had received positive feedback from participants, more than 300 people who are gallery directors, scholars, collectors, and press from all over the world. It was a great venue for sharing, and exchanging experience of the art market in Asia.

Art Taipei is the top venue of trading Chinese arts. There are also some other advantages making Art Taipei more competitive. For example, Taiwan collectors are the best collectors in Asia, Taiwan goods tax is the lowest in Asia(only 5%). Furthermore, Taiwan's geographical and cultural advantages cannot be ignored. Taiwan is not only in the connecting points between Southeast and Northeast Asia, but also a country with open-mind, mixed-culture citizens. All these merits make Taipei the best city to trading Asia arts.

For the galleries willing to start their business in Asia or China, Art Taipei is their best choice. The taste of Taiwan collectors can be seems as their market test for future China collectors.
