The new exhibition, which is comprised of works from the companys collection, focuses on the work Echo, a new acquisition by the Berlin-based artist Katja Eckert. The pair of images reflects the collections interest in the dialogue between painting and photography. Various methods of approaching and appropriating reality are concealed behind the seemingly media-specific subject matter.
The nature of the images is a fundamental aspect of this work by Katja Eckert, who was born in 1976 in Rüsselsheim. Her art confront us with photographys promise of reality although they are somber and mystical and hence impermeable. The images are actually digital drawings that were created on a computer using a photo editing program and then printed on photographic paper. These analog-digital processed drawings are created without master images and are based purely on memory and imagination. The subjectivity of the drawings and the private nature of the motif contrast with the objective surface of the supposed photograph.
In this exhibition, Eckerts diptych is related to painted works by Wolfgang Kessler, Helmut Geier and Gabriele Basch, which investigate photo-specific aspects of momentariness, speed and fragmentariness. These are contrasted with photographic works by Julia Kissina and Yehuda Altmann, as well as digitally manipulated works by Heinrich Gartentor and Petra Karadimas. An intriguing reflection on image and reality is guaranteed.
has been presenting contemporary art since 1966. Since 2001 the companys support of young artists is reflected in its development of an independent collection.
The exhibition runs from 26 July to 19 November 2010. Until then, Harun Farockis work, Umgießen Variation zu Opus 1 von Tomas Schmit, will be on view on the SEVEN SCREENS located on Munichs Mittler Ring.
