Jerusalem Museum Excavation Damages Bones
JERUSALEM (AP).- An Israeli newspaper is reporting that excavators clearing ground for a museum dedicated to tolerance in Jerusalem have dug up more than 1,000 skeletons from a Muslim cemetery.

Haaretz reported Tuesday that an investigation by the paper found that several of the skeletons were damaged during the excavations over the past five months for the Museum of Tolerance. The project is being funded by the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a Jewish organization based in Los Angeles.

Muslim groups have called for the project to be halted because it is being built on top of a Muslim cemetery.

Israel's Supreme Court instructed excavators to carefully remove the graves to an alternative burial site. Experts cited in Tuesday's report say this wasn't done properly.
