Brilliant Prices Achieved at Sotheby's Contemporary Art Sale in Milan
Enrico Castellani, "Blu", 1964, sul telaio. Acrilico su tela estroflessa. 100 x 80 cm.
MILAN.- Stefano Moreni, Responsible for the sale and auctioneer underlines the market vitality expressed by a growing number of conscious collectors, a reality evidently demonstrated by the brilliant prices achieved by all the works on paper of the sale, starting from the Balla’s 1912 drawing Penetrazione+ Spazio which was sold for more than 156.000Euro (over the high estimate), Afro (lot 16, 96.000Euro) the work on paper by Fontana (lot 31 51.000Euro) and the Christo another work on paper dated 1965 which was bought for more than 70.000Euro (lot 34, est. 40/60).

“The beautiful Italian private collection – Moreni adds - Fontana Ceramics executed in 1947 from an initial estimate of 70.000Euro was achieved by a new and sophisticated collector for more than 205.000Euro”.

The 1940 oil on canvas by Morandi was sold for the proposed estimate, excellent results were reached by the Concetto Spaziale by Lucio Fontana a work executed in 1961 sold on the phone for 270.750Euro after a lively bidding.

Same for the Castellani – illustrated on the catalogue’s cover – which from an estimate of 130/160 raised the price up to 270.750Euro and the Hartung executed in 1958 doubled its price up to 150.750Euro. Thanks to the great provenance and the beauty of the 1930’s painting by Filippo de Pisis – Vase of Flowers – formerly in the milanese Jesi Collection the lot’s price has doubled up to 102.750Euro.

Raphaelle Blanga, Contemporary Art specialist, remarks: “The lively participation of new Italian collectors and prestigious European dealers added to this sale a very positive feedback”.
