Akron Art Museum Names Jon T. Trainor New Director of Development

AKRON, OH.- The Akron Art Museum will soon have a new Director of Development. Effective October 12, Jon T. Trainor will be responsible for directing and planning all museum fundraising programs, including foundation and government grants, capital drives, annual giving, deferred giving, membership and special event programs.

Trainor comes to the Akron Art Museum after serving as president of the Akron General Development Foundation since 1986. As president he was responsible for the fundraising goals of the Akron General Medical Center and members of the Akron General Health System. During his tenure the Foundation raised over $95 million in philanthropic support and developed numerous special programs for the development process.

“Jon Trainor has a distinguished record of fundraising and strong relations with community members and many museum patrons,” said Dr. Mitchell Kahan, director and CEO at the Akron Art Museum. “He will bring a new level of experience to the position that our expanded institution greatly needs.”

He has been a member of the Ohio Association of Healthcare Philanthropy and the national Association for Healthcare Philanthropy for over 25 years. In 1989 he attained his Certified Fund Raising Executive status and continues that certification through continuing education programs and graduate level course work. He has also served as a consultant to several non-profit organizations in the field of fund development. And as an active member in the community, he currently serves on the board of several organizations and the Northern Ohio Division of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Trainor received his degree from Lynchburg College after completing studies at the University of Akron and a tour of duty in the United States Navy.

An avid golfer, fly fisherman and boater, Trainor resides in Silver Lake with his wife DeeDee. They have two children and one granddaughter.
